In 2014, CanLII (Canadian Legal Information Institute) launched the site CanLII Connects, an open collaborative platform that allows publishers, law firms and academics to share commentary on cases and legislation. One year later, the site contains some 35,000 case summaries and commentaries.

Back in April 2014, CALL member Shaunna Mireau explained how CanLII case search results would henceforth include links to commentary from CanLII Connects:

"This innovation with add more ‘social’ to legal commentary. The legal community speaking to each other through published case commentary has been wonderful. The legal community offering select commentary to our own clients and through our own websites has also been very useful. It will be interesting to see how socializing legal commentary with this offer of case comments easily available to all impacts the legal information space."

CanLII Connects won the 2014 Clawbie award (Canadian Law Blog Award) for the best legal blog aimed at a non-lawyer audience.

Similar promising initiatives to share legal commentary online for free include the recent resource-sharing agreements between major law firms and CAIJ, the Centre d'accès à l'information juridique (the network of courthouse law libraries associated with the Québec Bar Association).

En 2014, CanLII (Institut canadien d'information juridique) lançait une nouvelle plateforme de doctrine appelée CanLII Connecte qui permet aux cabinets juridiques et aux universitaires de partager leus analyses sur la jurisprudence canadienne. Un an plus tard, CanLII Connecte offre déjà 35,000 documents traitant d’arrêts de partout à travers le Canada.

 Et dans un conseil de recherche publié sur Slaw.ca en avril 2014, Shaunna Mireau, membre de l'ACBD, a expliqué que les résultats sur CanLII  incluraient dorénavant des liens à des textes de CanLII Connecte.

Le caractère novateur de CanLII Conecte fut reconnu l'année dernière quand le site se vit attribuer le Prix Clawbie (Canadian Law Blog Award) du meilleur blogue juridique à l'intention des non-avocats.

CanLII Connecte n'est pas la seule initiative visant à offir gratuitement en ligne la doctrine juridique. Il faut notamment mentionner les ententes de partenariat que le CAIJ a signé avec d'importants cabinets d’avocats afin de rendre leurs publications accessibles sans frais sur son site Internet. Le CAIJ est bien sûr le Centre d'accès à l'information juridique (CAIJ), le réseau de bibliothèques associé au Barreau du Québec.
